COUNCIL BLUFFS — Every year, Kiwanis of Council Bluffs donates 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to the Council Bluffs school district.
Northaven Elementary School is participating in the Blessings in a Backpack program for the 2011-12 school year. This unique program is designed to feed elementary school children whose families qualify for the federal Free and Reduced Meal Program, and have little to no food on the weekends.
One hundred backpacks were filled with necessities such as clothing, water, food, bus passes and hygiene items are part of the Oasis Street Outreach Backpack Program.
