How much weight can my backpack hold?

Answered By Editor

The weight that backpacks can hold depends on the type of the backpack and its manufacturing company. However there are approximations given for the different types of backpacks. It is always a good idea to weigh items you put in your backpack to be sure it complies with weight limits. This will help prevent undue stress on zippers and seams. Generally, light-weight backpacks can carry a maximum of 40 pounds, but 25 to 30 pounds is advisable; while heavy backpacks can carry 100 pounds of maximum load, but only 65 to 75 pounds are advisable, especially if there are any hanging items carried outside the backpack on its straps. It is to use the manufacturer's recommended weight. Those recommended weights are there for a reason.
