During the ‘Open Atelierdagen’ we did the first testing with the backpacks receiving the sound composition in a big space. Two enthusiast visitors volunteered to walk around with the backpacks. This gave some interesting insights regarding the perception of other people in the space, participants ‘feeling part’ of an event and acoustic characteristics of different locations in the space.
YMCA Kicks-off Houston’s Biggest Back-to-School Drive More than 35000 students benefit in 31 school districts across Texas Houston, Texas –The 6th Annual YMCA Operation Backpack, Houston’s largest school supply drive, is gearing up to help more than 40000 Houston area children start the school year off right. The YMCA of Greater Houston is mobilizing 38 YMCAs, local churches and other community partners to help collect thousands of backpacks and school supplies for children who might otherwise head back to school unprepared. The YMCA Operation Backpack press conference and kick-off was held place on Thursday, July 8th, 10:30 am, 2010 at Tijerina Elementary, 6501 Sherman Street, Houston, TX 77011. The campaign runs through August 15. The event included HISD Chief Communications Officer Aggie Alvez, Houston City Councilman James Rodriguez, Harris County Constable Precinct 6 Victor Trevino, HISD school board trustee Manuel Rodriguez. and YMCA partners. Also, Tellepsen/Downtown Family YMCA day campers, many of whom are beneficiaries of YMCA Operation Backpack, performed a song and cheer with college mascots, “Shasta”, of the University of Houston and “Mingo”, of Houston Baptist University. The mascots will helped the children fill backpacks with school supplies and place them in donation bins, followed by a march throughout the school hallway.
